Group Executive Committee Biographies


E Mervyn Davies CBE

Mervyn Davies was appointed Non-executive Chairman of Standard Chartered PLC in November 2006. Immediately prior to this Mervyn had been Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered PLC in November 2001, having joined the Board at Group Executive Director in December 1997.

He has a wide ranging banking background in the UK, US and Asia.

Mervyn joined the Board of Tesco as a Non-executive director in July 2003. He was appointed Non-executive Director to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in June 2004.

In April 2005, Mervyn accepted the role of Chairman to the Appeal Fundraising Board of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

He completed the Programme for Management Development at Harvard Business School and is a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers.

Mervyn was awarded a CBE for his services to the financial sector and the community in Hong Kong in June 2002. He is married with two children and is a fluent Welsh speaker. He is a keen sportsman and is interested in Welsh art, music and reading. Mervyn was born in 1952.

Jonathan Collins, Head of Trust Services - UK

Before joining FF&P, Jonathan held senior financial planning positions with Guinness Mahon, Flemings from 1993-1995 and Duncan Lawrie Private Bank. He joined FF&P from EFG Private Bank where he was head of its Private Clients division and with whom he remains a non-executive director of one of its operating companies. He had acted as an adviser to RF Trustee Co. Limited for the past ten years on a range of financial planning issues before taking up his appointment in April 2003. Jonathan joined the management board and the board of FF&P Trust Services Ltd in 2004.

Mark Davies, Chairman FF&P Asset Management

Mark has had a long career in the fund management industry. Currently, he is Executive Chairman of Thornhill Holdings Limited and prior to this spent 29 years at the Gerrard Group, where he became Chief Executive in 1996. He remains a non-executive director of Old Mutual Financial Services which acquired Gerrard Group in 2000. He joined FF&P in 2003.

Keith Felton, Head of Finance and Operations

Keith graduated from Durham University in 1979 and subsequently qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in London. In 1985 he joined Standard Chartered Merchant Bank, leaving four years later to join Gartmore Investment Management as group financial controller. In January 2000, he joined NCL Investments as finance director where, inter alia, he was instrumental in the merger with Smith & Williamson in 2002 and the subsequent integration of the two firms.
Keith joined FF&P in October 2004. Keith also serves as honorary treasurer of the Metropolitan Society for the Blind.

Richard Fitzalan Howard, Head of Asset Management - London

After completing his degree at Oxford, Richard joined Robert Fleming Holdings in 1975 where he gained 25 year's experience as an investment analyst and fund manager. He was based in Fleming's New York office from 1979-1982 and again from 1987-1990, when he was President of Fleming Capital Management and responsible for setting up Fleming's US fund management business. He returned to London in 1990 and implemented asset allocation for UK Pension Funds over a five year period. In 1995 he was appointed to head up the Endowments and Charities division. Richard joined FF&P in 2000.

David Fletcher, Head of Advisory

David read classics at Oxford University and then qualified as a chartered accountant in 1979. He joined Baring Brothers Corporate Finance in London in 1982, being seconded to Hong Kong (1983-1987), and Tokyo (1990-1992). In 1994 he joined Robert Fleming in London, becoming a director in 1996. Following the sale of Flemings in 2000 he became a Managing Director in the financial institutions group of JP Morgan Chase. He joined Fleming Family & Partners in October 2002.

Bob Michaelson, Group Investment Director

Bob has a BA in Economics and Politics from the University of Kent and 37 years’ investment experience. He spent ten years at Mercury Asset Management, latterly as Director and Vice Chairman, after which he became CIO of Citibank Global Asset Management. In 1995 he co-founded Sagitta Asset Management, a specialist asset management group focusing on quoted and unquoted equity investment and investment counselling. He was responsible for all investment-related activities until the Group was acquired by FF&P in November 2005.
